If you are shopping for a family car you’ve probably already started looking at the many offerings on the market and the massive amount of information available regarding safety ratings, gas mileage, cost of ownership, and other factors to determine the best value for your family. Fortunately you don’t have to sift through all of that data on your own as Kelly Blue Book recently announced their annual “Best Family Cars of the Year” list.  The publication’s editors selected from over 300 vehicles to determine the top 16 vehicles based on comfort, safety, spaciousness, convenience, and child-safety-seat fit.

2016 Honda Civic – The overall best buy of 2016 is the most affordable family car and was praised for the “Honda Sensing” package, a suite of safety features that are generally limited to much larger and more expensive cars, including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and frontal crash warning system.

2016 Chevrolet Malibu – All new for 2016, the Malibu was praised for having a larger interior with more amenities including MyLink with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot capability, several USB ports, Bluetooth and navigation as well as numerous safety features and above average fuel economy for a midsize sedan.

2016 Hyundai Sonata – Editors lauded the Sonata for its “high-value-to-dollar” ratio and the large trunk and interior spaces as well as many available options including heated rear seats, rear-window sunshades, and a 7 inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2016 Kia Optima – Adding to the title of Mid-size sedan Best Buy earlier this year the 2016 Optima is rated at up to 39 mpg on the highway and comes standard with seven airbags, hill start assist, and a backup camera. The interior is one of the roomiest in the class and the trunk is nearly as large as that of the Sonata.

2016 Honda Accord – The midsized Accord received a refresh for the 2016 model year including a new grille, led lighting, and a split-folding rear seat for easier access to the trunk and more cargo versatility. “Honda Sensing” is also available on the Accord, adding many safety and convenience features to a sedan known for quality, reliability, and solid resale value.

2016 Chevrolet Impala – The only full-size sedan on the list, the Impala has been updated with a sleeker exterior and enough interior space to comfortably seat five. The V6 starts at about $31,500 and the roomy quiet cabin and smooth handling ride also raised the 2016 Impala to the Full-Size Best buy for 2016.
