San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh to drive the Pace Car in the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 this Memorial Day, 2013.  Harbaugh, co-owner of Panther Racing, an IndyCar team driving with Chevy Engines, is receiving coaching from official pace car driver and driving coach Johnny Rutherford and is the first sports figure that’s not a race car driver to drive the pace car since Lance Armstrong in 2006.

Harbaugh will be driving a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, marking the 12th time that the Corvette has been selected as the official pace car.  The pace car will lead the traditional 33-car field around Indy's historic 2.5-mile oval.  The Stingray will be painted Laguna Blue Tintcoat and the only modifications from the stock car that is sold to the public will be the safety features. The pace car's rear-window-mounted interior lightbar replaced the typical roof-mounted pace car safety light setup to keep the Stingray’s aggressive styling complete. Attention-grabbing flashers were installed in the car's grille and its front LED headlight clusters have been programmed to flash in a safety pattern.  The engine will be the stock LT1 6.2-liter engine supplying 450 horsepower to keep in front of the field.

Also debuting at this year’s Indy 500 is the “Festival Car”, 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition Convertible, which will be arriving in dealerships soon and will be available in  two LT (V6) and two SS (V8) trims, with SS models featuring a 6.2-liter V8, offered as the “L99” on automatic-equipped vehicles and the “LS3” on manual-equipped models. The L99 has 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft (556 Nm) of torque, while the LS3 develops 426 horsepower and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque.

LT-based models feature the “LFX” 3.6-liter V6 engine rated at 323 horsepower. A dual-mode exhaust system is available with the six-speed manual transmission, as well as LT models with either the manual or the automatic transmission. The special edition Festival Cars will feature the same Laguna Blue paint as the Official Pace Car with graphic accents, red line alloys, a Hot Wheels grille and the Hot Wheels company logo on the grille and decklid plus Hot Wheels Edition sill plates.

Both the Corvette Stingray and the Hot Wheels Camaro are certain to generate a lot of excitement on the track this weekend and at the dealerships as well as on the road this summer.
